Philipp Schnell
Lawyer | Senior Associate
Philipp Schnell advises private individuals, companies, investors and the public sector in all areas of energy law, public building and planning law and environmental law.
He maintains a focus on specialist consulting in the field of renewable energy law. Philipp supports all phases of the development and marketing of renewable energy projects (e.g. planning, construction, operation and project transactions), particularly photovoltaic and wind power projects. He focuses on public law issues and approval procedures (urban land-use planning/building permits/emission control and nature and species protection issues) as well as securing land under civil law. Mr. Schnell also represents clients in energy law issues, e.g. grid access, feed-in, billing, tendering procedures.
When advising on project development, transactions and portfolio management in the real estate sector, he specializes in building energy and heat planning law, particularly the regulatory framework for the energy supply of buildings as an interface between energy and real estate.
A further focus of his advisory services is the support of emission control approval procedures (initial and amendment procedures) and advising plant operators on the adaptation of existing plants to changing legal conditions.
Philipp is a member of the Energy & Infrastructure Practice Group. Outside of the firm, he is actively involved in the Federal Association of the Solar Industry (BSW) and as a lecturer at the Bavarian Administrative School (BVS). Among other things, he lectures there, for example, on “Legal foundations of the energy transition” as part of the in-service qualification to become a municipal energy manager.
He also publishes as an author with the publishing house C.H.Beck oHG, most recently as co-author of the handbook Das neue GEG – Gebäudeenergiegesetz, Das “Heizungsgesetz” im Miet-, WEG-, Bau- und Immobilienrecht (December 2023, edited by Prof. Dr. Ulf Börstinghaus, former local court judge, and Guido Meyer, lawyer).
